Women who are expecting a baby or have recently given birth need special protection to avoid harm to themselves and their infant. Use our flow chart to ensure your procedures are in good order.
The law
As an employer you must ensure that employees who are pregnant or who have recently given birth are properly protected from hazards at work. The legal requirements are set out in the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, duties which we have reflected in our new Flow Chart - New and Expectant Mothers at Work. Our document leads you through the process, from anticipating the issues which might arise through to managing the safety of individual staff.
