Approval of parental leave request

Unless you postpone parental leave in accordance with the statutory provisions, you must accept an employee’s parental leave request.

Request granted

Once you receive a parental leave request, assuming it’s been made correctly, complied with the notice provisions and doesn’t ask for more than the statutory entitlement, you cannot choose whether to accept or reject it (and you can only postpone it in limited circumstances). You therefore need to approve it and confirm to the employee the agreed start and end dates. Use our Approval of Parental Leave Request. As leave must be taken in blocks of one week under the “fallback scheme”, part-weeks of parental leave are treated as whole weeks. The exception is that the parents of disabled children can take parental leave a day at a time.
