HMRC will be seeking to recover all wrongly claimed furlough payment grants. However, employers who have made innocent mistakes in their claims have been given time to rectify their errors. When must
you act by?
You might have furloughed members of staff or be planning on doing so. Where an employee has been furloughed can you make them redundant during or after their furlough period?
All furlough pay claims must now be submitted within two weeks of the end of the previous calendar month, unless you have a “reasonable excuse for failing to make the claim in time”. What will HMRC
accept as a reasonable excuse?
Under the government’s Job Retention Scheme you can “furlough” employees and claim 80% of each individual’s wage costs, up to a cap of £2,500 per month. Do you have to pay the remaining 20%?
From 1 July 2020 eligible employees may be flexibly furloughed. Where this happens, you must pay them their usual rate of pay for all hours worked. How is this calculated?
The Job Support Scheme (JSS) will operate once the extended furlough scheme ends. It consists of two parts - “JSS Open” and “JSS Closed”. What’s the difference between the two?
