What’s covered?
The aim of this Safety Briefing - Liquid and Spillage Management is to ensure all staff are fully aware of the potential risks; what can happen if liquid spillage risks aren’t properly managed and what should be done to minimise the chance of a spill and injury or pollution in the event of a spill.
Hazards and risks
The briefing identifies the hazards and risks including slips, trips and falls, exposure to potentially hazardous substances, fire and pollution.
Management
Control measures include ensuring handling aids are in good order, all spills are cleaned up as quickly as possible and the spill is contained at source.

Attendees must take note of the following key points:
- “Keep an eye on all equipment, use it correctly and report any potential problems.
- Remember all training and use a common sense approach whenever handling liquids.
- Know the hazards of the liquids themselves.
- If you see a spill, even small, deal with it or make sure that somebody does - however, when you do remember “safety first”, just as with any other emergency.”
