Safety briefing - maintenance hazards
This briefing addresses the key hazards, risks and control measures needed to manage safe working practices when undertaking either routine or non-routine safety tasks.

The briefing identifies the hazards and risks including physical injury through incorrect manual handling techniques, exposure to electric shock and falls from height.

Control measures include only allowing trained staff to undertake maintenance tasks, equipment to be de-energised whilst works are undertaken, suitable access equipment to be used, etc.

- Only competent staff should work on non-routine maintenance.
- Ensure that a safe system of work is in place and that the operative fully understands the procedures.
- Ensure correct tools, equipment and spare parts are in place prior to commencing maintenance.
- De-energise any powered equipment following lock out tag out procedure.
- Keep the area free from obstructions, trip hazards and non-essential personnel.
- If in doubt, stop and seek assistance.
- Make sure equipment is in safe condition to put back into service.
