Safety briefing register

Safety briefings are an effective way of communicating important messages. Use our register to help you manage the process.

Not the most popular

It’s fair to say that most staff don’t look forward to health and safety training - especially if it lasts all day or covers the same old ground. However, this doesn’t mean that you should stop doing it. Training staff is vital to ensure that they are made aware of significant risks and the safe systems of work to follow.

It doesn’t have to take all day

One way of making training more palatable is to break it down into short and simple sessions. Safety briefings - or toolbox talks as they are often referred to - are an ideal solution. Lasting 15 minutes maximum, these sessions help you to get across important messages to ensure the health, safety and welfare of your staff.

Keep it fresh

To keep staff interested and to make sure you cover a variety of subjects, use our Safety Briefing Register. By filling out this document, you’ll have a detailed list of the topics you need to cover, what’s already been completed and when.

How does it work?

The document asks you to complete a list of the safety briefings you have to work through. Ideally, include about 20-30 briefings that you believe are most appropriate to the work your business carries out. For example, if staff work on ladders or steps, cover the safe use of these items in a briefing. If they could come into contact with asbestos, complete a briefing that identifies the risks and control measures to follow. Also use the register to record who has completed the briefings and when.
