Introduction to this document

Traffic routes

When setting up a temporary work site you must ensure that the risk from moving vehicles is minimised. Use our template method statement for the task.

How to use it

Our Method Statement - Traffic Routes will help those arranging the site’s barriers and signage etc. before vehicles arrive. It can also be used as part of your site safety induction.

We’ve included all the usual arrangements you’d want to put in place anywhere that you have moving plant, deliveries and other transport hazards. Adapt and amend it to suit the specific job you’re working on.

What’s covered?

The document begins with a task description, Setting up site traffic routes” followed by a list of equipment and emergency arrangements on the site. We’ve prefilled these boxes, but there is also a blank line for you to complete site-specific arrangements. In this case, you may want to include an appendix at the end of the document with a plan of the layout you require.

Note. All the instructions in the second section are based on the normal procedures which take place on larger well organised sites. You are free to change them to reflect your own arrangements, although you should take care to ensure that your process is just as safe. Site traffic accidents are one of the most common causes of construction site fatalities.
