Introduction to this document

Method statement - excavations under 1.2m

Because of the risks associated with excavations, e.g. manual handling, trench collapse, service strikes etc., you must identify the safe systems of work that your staff should follow.

Cutting the cable

Failing to plan and manage an excavation properly can be costly - both to the health and safety of those involved and to the pocket.

However, if the works are completed properly, the risk of hitting services or ground collapse, etc. should be minimal. This is where our Method Statement - Excavations Under 1.2m can be used.

Clear guidance

This method statement is a written series of safe systems of work. It specifies the activities to be undertaken on a stage-by-stage basis. It also details the precautions necessary to protect those involved in the work, including other contractors, members of the public and anyone else who may be affected by the work.

Note. You may wish to add additional information/boxes to your form. However, we suggest that you don’t remove any of those that we’ve included. This is because our document follows industry standards and covers all the information that should be included in such a document.
