Permit to work - high pressure water jetting

Use this permit to work to retain control over high pressure water jetting activities.

Why use it?

The risks of high pressure water jetting are less obvious than some construction and maintenance activities, but they’re really quite serious. Not only can the water jet pierce the skin, but the activity also causes flying debris, high noise levels and a risk of electric shock. If the work is not well controlled, third parties are in danger as well as the operator so it’s sensible to carry out formal checks on the method of work before authorising the go ahead. To do this, you can use our Permit to Work - High Pressure Water Jetting.

When?

You should decide on the circumstances in which using this form will be compulsory and then ensure that your managers and staff are aware. Most employers, for example, would say that in-house staff using a domestic type power washer, do not require a permit to work. That wouldn’t be the case, however, for contractors utilising industrial equipment.

Note. This permit does not cover the hazards which exist in every conceivable circumstance. For example, the form is not appropriate for the cleaning of cooling towers or asbestos roofs as additional checks will be required for such work. You should also consider any special risks such as work at height or in confined spaces. You may decide to issue more than one permit to work so that all life threatening risks are adequately covered.
