Careful selection

Checking that staff are fit and capable to work safely is a sensible thing to do at recruitment. But since the Equality Act 2010 came into force it’s been quite a difficult task for employers. The Act’s purpose is to prevent discrimination on the grounds of disability. But you also have a duty to protect new recruits from the harm which could be caused by work demands which are unsuitable.
