Introduction to this document

Mobile work platform inspection checklist

If you’re operating a small mobile work platform, such as a Peco lift, it’s vital to complete basic pre-start checks to confirm that it’s safe to use. The findings of the inspection should be recorded on our document.

Before you start

If you’re planning to use a piece of equipment to help you work at height, you need to be sure that it won’t let you down by not providing the safe access option you expected. It’s imperative that it’s inspected for signs of damage, safety-critical faults etc. before it’s used.

Keeping records

As well as completing the checks, the operator should maintain a record that this has been done. This is where our Work Equipment - Mobile Work Platform Inspection Checklist should be used.

The document is designed to record weekly checks for each machine your staff are using. An effective way of making sure it’s filled in is for a copy to be put into a plastic wallet that’s attached to the machine. This will mean that all the operator has to do is take it out of the wallet and tick the appropriate boxes.

Completing the form

The first section asks you to provide details of the site at which the equipment is being used, to name the individual responsible for completing the check, and provide details which identify the equipment.

Note. If a number of people will complete the check, don’t worry about filling in the “Person completing the check” section. In this instance ask staff to use their initials rather than a tick in the box when it comes to confirming that the check has been made.

All questions should be answered. If any issues are identified, further information should be provided in the appropriate boxes.
