Introduction to this document

50-point plant safety checklist

If you have plant and machinery, it’s vital that everything is safe to use. Completing our checklist should help you to spot any potential problems and may prevent accidents or damage.

Vital checks

If you hire in plant or machinery, or if you have your own, don’t assume that it’s always safe to use. Our 50-Point Plant Safety Checklist will help you to spot potential problems before a machine is used.

What’s  covered?

Firstly, you’re asked to identify the plant being checked. You should record the: (1) machine; (2) make; (3) fleet number; and (4) machine hours.

The document then asks 50 questions about the plant under scrutiny. These cover pretty much every part of the vehicle, from the tyres or tracks, right up to the operator’s seat belt.

Logical order

The questions are set out so that they can be completed in a methodical order. They start with general observations about the vehicle and then move into more in-depth checks.
