Homeworking policy

Working from home can lead to confusion about responsibilities. Use our policy to set out how these are divided between the employee and employer.

Legal dilemma

Health and safety legislation and guidance on homeworking are minimal which leaves some grey areas. The home becomes a workplace and this means that various pieces of legislation apply, placing duties on the employer.

To make your expectations clear, our policy states that anyone permitted to work from home on a formal basis retains responsibility for the provision of a safe working environment. It requires employees to complete a homeworking questionnaire and a display screen assessment. if their manager agrees to it, they will then sign a homeworking agreement.

You should tailor the policy by following the instructions in italics. This will ensure that it reflects your position on various aspects such as furniture, equipment and sources of support which are provided.
