Personal protective equipment checklist

The safety standards which apply to personal protective equipment (PPE) are complex. Use our checklist to review your arrangements.

Monitoring your ppe

If your PPE consists of a few high visibility vests, there’s no need to go overboard and carry out a full-blown audit. But for many businesses PPE provision is much more comprehensive and performs a key role in managing health and safety risks. If that’s the case you should strongly consider carrying out an audit every few years. You can use our Personal Protective Equipment Checklist to do this.

The checklist is based on the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992. For example, it examines the suitability of PPE for the circumstances and whether it complies with current safety standards. It also looks at how readily available it is and whether staff have been instructed on the importance of wearing it. Other questions ask if it’s subject to regular cleaning and repair and if staff have received training in how to use it. Last but not least, you’re asked if staff have been involved in its selection.
