Introduction to this document

Flow chart - H&S management organogram

Our flow chart is a management structure for allocating health and safety responsibilities and showing communication channels. What’s covered?

Responsibilities

The value of a organogram lies in showing that everyone involved in the business is responsible for health and safety and communication channels must be maintained for health and safety messages to flow around the business.

To reflect legislation, the Flow Chart – H&S Management Organogram shows that health and safety is led by the “Directors/board” of the company. It also includes a “H&S advisor” box. We have deliberately taken the advisor out of the direct management of the organisation. They are placed at the side and feed into both the directors and senior management. This is to show that the advisor is not responsible for managing health and safety risks, as is often assumed.

If necessary, you will need to edit the document so that it accurately reflects your business. Amend the titles to suit your needs.

In each of the boxes you could add names of key personnel in your business. However, unless you have a specific need to, you should avoid doing so. Apart from anything else, this saves you from having to update it each time someone leaves or moves roles.
