Summary of principal contractor’s responsibilities
When a construction project involves more than one contractor a principal contractor must be appointed to take charge in accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015). Our summary will help you to understand what’s required.

This document explains that the principal contractor has a leadership role on site and summarises what that means in practice. This includes preparing the construction phase plan and implementing a health and safety management system on site, for example by putting in place site security and carrying out inductions of new workers and visitors.
