Introduction to this document

Fire risk assessment - fire management

In addition to identifying sources of fuel, oxygen and heat, your fire risk assessment should check that your management arrangements are up to scratch.

What’s covered?

The Fire Risk Assessment - Fire Management form begins by asking “Which company or organisation has overall control of fire safety at the premises?. This is the organisation, which, within English and Welsh premises, is the “responsible person. The role is set out in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and carries particular legal responsibilities.

The second part of the document asks you to described the arrangements you have in place for liaising with the fire and rescue service (FRS). If your premises are straightforward, you don’t store quantities of hazardous substances or have asbestos present in the building, there won’t be any need to liaise with the FRS, except during an actual fire alarm.

The final table is where you should describe the roles and responsibilities for fire safety matters, i.e. who does what. We’ve pre-completed it with the commonly occuring roles such as organising fire drills and appointing fire marshals.
