Classification of fire extinguisher information sheet

There’s a wide range of extinguishers available, so it can be confusing to know which ones to put where. Our information sheet makes this task simple.

The right choice

Getting your extinguisher choice wrong could put people in extreme danger.

There are six classes of fire, A, B, C, D, F and those caused by an electrical source of ignition. This information sheet briefly outlines the meaning of each classification and describes the type of extinguisher suitable in each case. It also includes warnings about selecting the extinguisher to suit the environment, and where choosing the wrong approach to fire fighting could be fatal.

It should be used in conjunction with our guidance document How to Use a Fire Extinguisher and supported by practical training.
