Guidance note - environmental
impact/risk assessments

An environmental impact assessment is a way of considering the potential environmental effects of a proposed activity or development. It’s a very complicated process and is one that’s usually completed by an environmental consultant or specialist.

Environmental impact assessments

Environmental impact assessments (EIA) help to inform the appropriate authorities and those responsible for the proposal the impact an activity is likely to have on the environment. An EIA is required under UK legislation for all major developments with the potential to cause large-scale environmental disruption or which may have a significant impact on the environment. To help you identify what needs to be assessed we’ve produced a Guidance Note - Environmental Impact/Risk Assessments, which identifies the key stages in the process, including recognition of potential hazards, possible consequences and the significance of a risk.
