What’s covered?

The aim of this Safety Briefing - PPE is to explain the importance of PPE, why it must be worn if issued and what the individual is expected to do to ensure that the PPE is an effective barrier against a remaining hazard.

Hazards and risks

The briefing identifies the hazards and risks of not using issued PPE correctly including lack of protection which exposes the staff member to a hazard. It also highlights the risks such as ill health from over-exposure and physical damage to eyes, hands, etc.

Control measures

The briefing addresses the main points from your PPE policy such as who will be issued PPE and ensuring that it’s compatible with other workwear.

It also reminds staff of their responsibility to wear it correctly, look after it and report any faults.

Attendees must take note of the following key points:

  • You are responsible for ensuring the condition of your PPE and replacing it when damaged.
  • If PPE is provided it means the hazard has not been controlled by other means so you must wear it in accordance with your training and not be tempted to “just do a task” without your issued PPE.
  • The Company will replace PPE when notified by the user that the existing equipment is damaged.”
