Quick risk prediction
To ensure that your staff follow prescribed safe systems of work, use a formal process. However, sometimes the task may be low risk, or one that has not been done before, and this is where our form comes in. By completing this document you can evidence that you have stopped to consider new risks and that it is safe to proceed but without going through the red tape of a formal risk assessment.
Why introduce a new safety tool?
You should have in place suitable and sufficient written risk assessments for “significant” risks. But what about those smaller risks that may not fall into this category? Our Quick Risk Prediction form helps you to close those gaps without using cumbersome systems that many workers shy away from.
Train your staff to think about a task before commencing it, especially if they have never done it before. By completing our form they will be considering the task prior to starting and therefore be less likely to have an unexpected accident.
Note. These assessments do not replace a suitable and sufficient written risk assessment but can quickly identify low risk activities and if the job is safe to continue.
Clear guidance
This procedure encourages staff to think about their safety, e.g. are they competent, are the right tools available, etc. It then details a simple list of hazards that may be present for a new, low risk task and a checklist of precautions that should be taken. The final section gives consideration as to whether this process is sufficient, or if it should be escalated to a formal written risk assessment.
Completed documents form part of your health and safety management system and can be produced at audits or as part of investigations to show that low risk activities are also assessed. Records should be kept for three years.
