When staff work from home under a formal agreement, there must be a clear understanding of how health and safety issues will be dealt with. Use our suggested clauses.
Once someone is working at home on a formal basis their home also becomes their workplace and this muddies the waters over responsibilities for the work environment. They’re also unsupervised and can become isolated, meaning it’s more difficult to oversee their work and ensure that they are coping.
To resolve this, set out some ground rules. You can use the Homeworking Clauses as part of the homeworker’s contract or in a letter when you formally agree to homeworking.
Note. These clauses are written for office tasks. If your staff carry out other types of work from home, such as manufacturing or laundry, you’ll need to adapt them.
